Eligibility for International Applicants

To apply as an international student for NLSIU’s 3-Year LL.B (Hons.) program, you must meet the following criteria:

Nationality: You should be a citizen of a country other than India (This includes Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) who hold foreign citizenship.) Indian nationals are not eligible under the international category and must take the domestic NLSAT.

Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university is required. You should have achieved an equivalent of at least a 45% aggregate mark (or corresponding grade) in your undergraduate degree.

This is the minimum for general category; since the international category is distinct, the 45% benchmark applies to all international candidates.

Candidates in Final Year: If you are in the final year of your Bachelor’s program (undergraduate degree), you can apply for NLSAT-International 2025. However, you must complete your degree with the required passing percentage and submit proof (transcripts/ certificate) of graduation by December 31, 2025 (the same deadline applicable to domestic candidates)

Failure to provide proof of graduation in time can lead to forfeiture of your admission offer.

  • NLSIU defines “international student” purely on the basis of citizenship.
  • If you hold an Indian passport, you will have to go through the domestic process even if you reside abroad.
  • Conversely, foreign passport holders are eligible for the international category even if they have studied in India.

Application Process and Deadlines

The NLSAT-International 2025 application cycle is time-bound, important dates:

  • Application Start Date: February 21, 2025
  • Application Deadline: March 30, 2025
  • NLSAT-International Exam Date: April 27, 2025

  • The entrance test for international applicants will be offered in two modes:

  • Offline in India: If you are an international applicant currently residing in India (or if you will be in India around the exam time), you are expected to appear in person for the NLSAT-International at one of the designated test centres within India
(For example, foreign nationals studying in Indian universities or expats living in India would take the test at a center in India.)
  • Online (remote) for outside India: If you will be outside India on the exam date (e.g., in your home country), you can take the NLSAT-International online, from abroad
The university will conduct the test such that it is accessible globally, likely using a secure online proctoring system. You will need a reliable internet connection, webcam, and microphone for identity verification and monitoring during the test. The exam start time will be adjusted for different time zones (this information will be provided with the admit card; ensure you convert the time to your local time-zone correctly).

  • Interview & Results: Unlike the domestic process which ends with the written test, the international admissions include an interview. Shortlisted candidates will be informed and interviews are expected to be held in May 2025 (likely around mid-May).
  • Final admission results (offer letters) are expected by late May or early June 2025, to give selected students time for visa processing and moving to India.
